new house reading challenge

As we prepare for an exciting week's programme of events for World Book Day!

As we begin a new half term, we are excited to launch our new Library House Reading Challenge: Inspirational Books, and some of our students are pictured above checking out the special display of titles in the LRC.

This is great preparation for the week's programme of events we have planned to mark World Book Day on 6th March. These begin with what has become something of a UGS Library tradition: the Year 7 Golden Ticket Search, where our young readers are invited to pit their wits to solve the literary clues in a search for the elusive golden tickets.

We will also be holding the big UGS Book Swap event: students are invited to bring in a book from home that they have already read that they will get to swap for someone else's to keep, all while being awarded house-points for participation!

On Friday 7th March, we are looking forward to welcoming author Sue Cunningham to school, who will visit to tell us all about her amazing new book Cloud Nine, and to sign copies for the students who wish to buy it.

There will also be celebratory assemblies and the opportunity to receive all-important reading recommendations, including our brand-new 25 books to read by 25 and 16 by 16 reading lists. And our whole school community is invited to take part in a Social Media Fast to challenge themselves to go without Social Media for Lent, Ramadan or for 30 days, and to instead indulge in some reading for pleasure.

But it doesn't end there: from Monday 17th March, we will be hosting a fantastic Book Fair in school, where students will have the opportunity to redeem their World Book Day vouchers against the purchase of a book.

We can't wait to see our students participate in all of our special reading events and initiatives: watch this space for updates!
