Tara conference
Part of something truly special: our students represent UGS at Trafford Schools' Anti-Racism Alliance conference
We have been proud as a school community to participate in TARA(Trafford Schools Antiracism Alliance since its launch, and this afternoon our ambassadors attended a conference at Altrincham Boy's Grammar School to share all that TARA at UGS have achieved so far this year, to discuss plans for moving forward, and to pool ideas and initiatives.
Pictured above are just 2 of our TARA ambassadors who were in attendance: Year 13s Rose and Jasmine, who addressed the conference on all the hard work undertaken by TARA at UGS to date, including:
Fund-raising Cultural Food Fest (with ISOC)
Wear it Red Day for Show Racism the Red Card
Black History Month celebrations and Reclaiming Narratives writing competition
Awareness-raising assemblies for KS3, 4 & 5
School Intranet posts that profile and celebrate world cultures
Altrincham Boy's Grammar and the other schools: St Ambrose, BTH, Wellington, North Cestrian, and Altrincham Girl's Grammar School also shared the events and initiatives that they had organised, before all the students got together to make plans and field ideas for how the alliance can work together moving forward to action TARA's vision and its core values:
Empowerment
Proactivity
Celebration
Transformation
It was a truly inspirational afternoon and all the students did us proud, and we are excited to take the next steps on our TARA journey, and are delighted that we will be hosting the next conference here at UGS.
