non-fiction November winners
Celebrating our Library House reading competition winners!
To celebrate national Non-Fiction November, we were delighted to showcase our extensive range of non-fiction resources and subject-specialist wider reading material, and to organise two Library house challenges: the Pitch your Passion writing competition, the winners of which we announced last week, and the House Reading Challenge.
Students were tasked with taking the opportunity to explore and read as many Non-Fiction titles as they could throughout November. There was a special display of our latest acquisitions in the LRC, and we have been proud to extend the range of books available to our students over the last 2 years. We have built up extensive collections in response to our student voice and to staff recommendations during, for example, Black History Month, International Women's Day, and in working with our TARA (Trafford Schools' Antiracism Alliance) ambassadors and our Feminist Society. With teaching departments, we have also developed the availability of wider reading resources to enrich student learning and critical thinking in specific subjects, including Geography, Science, Maths, the Social Sciences, Politics and History.
The winners of the Non-Fiction November Reading Challenge are pictured above this morning after collecting their prizes and certificates:
Muhammad 7U: who is passionate about history, particularly of the world wars, and has read an impressive number of titles in the field over the month.
Joel 7U: who is greatly interested in sport and has enjoyed reading our new range of books on football, teams and players.
Asfer 8R: who enjoys reading about all things Geography, one of his favourite subjects, and scientific matters.
Thomas 9M: who has been learning more about Psychology and experiments in Science
Jacob 7U: who has read a great deal about space and the solar system.
Really well done all, and we look forward to sharing updates on the outcome of our brand new challenge: Read for Christmas!
