science club test reactions

A workshop of colourful learning at today's Science Club!

This week, Year 7 Science Club were learning all about the characteristics of acidic, basic and neutral solutions, and enjoyed using red cabbage indicator to test whether the solutions were acid or base.

Measuring pH is a fundamental science that is used by many engineers. Different colours are obtained from different PH levels in the red cabbage indicator test: for example, a PH of 2 is red, PH 4 is purple, PH 6 is violet, PH 8 is blue, 8/10 is blue-green, and 12 is greenish-yellow.

Our scientists then deployed the colourful outcome of their base tests to artistic effect in the creation of fantastic pictures of aquatic creatures, that will be used to decorate the front presentation desk of their base laboratory in S7!

Another great week of hands-on learning and productivity for Science Club, with huge thanks to staff leads Mrs Walsh, Dr Bethell, and Mr Sharp, and we look forward to dropping in next week!
