year 8 coding workshops
Micro:bit educational foundation visit UGS to inspire our future digital innovators!
Earlier this week, we were delighted to welcome the micro:bit educational foundation to school, who delivered a range of interactive digital workshops to our Year 8 Computer Science students.
And to capture film and photos to promote their new website: micro:bit CreateAI.
This new, free, web-based tool makes it easy for students to explore AI through movement and machine learning, and to take it into the real world with a BBC micro:bit.
The foundation took over our Year 8 computer science classes to give our students the opportunity to program and play with the micro:bit, a pocket-sized computer.
This is the same technology used by smart watches and fitness trackers, and our students used it with CreateAI to capture data from jumping, running, and even dancing. They then used that data to train and test a machine learning model.
Before coding the micro:bits with that model and then testing it in all sorts of activities outside.
This included running, jumping and tennis!
The photos and video will launch next week and will feature on microbit.org and their social channels, promoting CreateAI to educators around the world.
Head of Marketing Lynn Huynh shares that the foundation would like to say a huge thank you to Co-Head Mr Kennedy-Fowler (pictured below):
Computer Science teacher Mr McNeil:
And to all of our lovely Year 8 students for being so fantastic!
A really inspirational, informative, hands-on and fun day of digital learning for our students, with huge thanks to the micro:bit educational foundation for visiting UGS and delivering this exciting opportunity to our students!
