Our Crest Award Scientists trial their experiments!
We have been delighted to follow the progress of our Year 8 scientists who have been working hard after school on projects that they have devised themselves towards earning the CREST award.
The students have embraced this fantastic extracurricular opportunity to plan, to research, to carry out, and ultimately to present on their projects; and to earn the award, they will need to demonstrate independence, proactivity, and enthusiasm, and to evidence that they have developed their investigative, reflective, and evaluative skills.
Some of the projects our students have devised include:
Investigating dehydration.
Wind turbines
Waste free and zero-packaging lunches.
The scientifically perfect cup of tea
A probe into how rockets work.
They are pictured above at today's session, and CREST award lead Mrs Walsh is delighted to share this update:
The students have been busy researching, planning and risk assessing their own practicals, and today was the first opportunity for them to trial their experiments.
Over the next couple of weeks, they can make adjustments to their methods to improve their results. The students have been working really hard, and we are very grateful for the additional support from Mr Parker and Mr Leech, as well as our amazing technicians Mrs Yarwood and Dr Bethell, without whom these sessions would not be possible - thank you!
