ugs proud to support show racism the red card

Fund-raising non-uniform day & a bake sale!

Today our fantastic TARA (Trafford School's Antiracism Alliance) ambassadors arranged a special fund-raising day to support charity Show Racism the Red Card on its anniversary, and we have been proud to see a sea of red amongst the UGS student and staff community, including at a bake sake at break and lunch organised by our Senior Prefects:

TARA work hard both within UGS, and in partnership with other Trafford schools, to facilitate and support community and societal initiatives to raise awareness, promote anti-racism, and to profile and celebrate all that unites us; and, crucially, to sound and action the student voice in leading change.

Next week, with ISOC, they will also host a Cultural Food Festival during lunch. This was a huge success last year, and we know that, with the support of our students, it will be just as impactful and enjoyable this year, and a fantastic multicultural whole school community way to round off another great UGS half-term.

TARA have also organised a special writing competition for Black History Month (details below) on the theme of reclaiming narratives and sharing stories, and they look forward to receiving lots of entries from our students. The closing date is just after the half-term break, providing plenty of opportunity to put pen to paper!

Senior Prefect Bake Sale

Our Year 13 Senior Prefects today organised a Bake Sale to raise funds for the much-anticipated Leaver's Prom, always a spectacular event and a lovely way to create final lasting memories of time spent at UGS.

As you can see from the photo above, it was fantastic to see so many of our students show out in support, and to treat them themselves to some tasty bakes and cakes all in good cause at the end of another hard-working UGS week!

Really well done all!
