year 13 residential biology field trip

Our A level biologists develop and enrich their practical skills!

Pictured above with Mrs Mohamed, and below with Dr Richards, are just some of our Year 13 A Level Biologists who yesterday safely arrived at the fantastic Crandale Centre near Malton, North Yorkshire, for their 3-day residential field trip.

The field study course is an integral part of the A2 programme of study for the AQA Advanced Biology specification.

It provides our students with an opportunity to develop knowledge of the practical application of field study techniques, and is therefore crucially important in supporting the delivery of the ‘Energy & Ecosystems’ content of the A level biology course.

The residential trip also facilitates an opportunity to complete an essential ‘Required Practical Activity’ specified by the examination board, and our students will undertake investigative sampling techniques across a range of ecosystems, and develop their practical competency.

To put all that they have been learning into practice, today our biologists have been checking the traps that were set up last night, before beginning the mark, release, and recapture of the snails, and they can be seen above busy in their fresh water sampling in the gorgeous North Yorks sunshine, and below rock sampling at the magnificent Filey Brigg:

Not only educative and insightful, but a thoroughly enjoyable, enriching, rewarding and memorable trip for all involved.

With huge thanks to all our staff supporting Year 13 on this trip and to their wonderful hosts at the Cranedale Centre.
