supercurricular lecture programme at ugs 2024/5

Proud to announce our schedule for this year!

Following the success of last year's supercurricular programme at UGS, event organiser Miss Hammond is now delighted to release the schedule for this year:

Our super-curricular or community lecture series is in its second year of running, and the series is aimed at developing students' academic curiosity. The lectures are pitched at a first year university level and will be delivered by experts in the field.

We hope these lectures will challenge and inspire our students to keep learning outside the classroom.

Last year saw a range of rigorously academic lecture topics ranging from mitophagy in Parkinson's, the Derridian concept of Hauntology, Darwin's theory of the selfish gene, linguistic conservatism in the classroom, the history and future of energy, and a journey through modernism via the lens of tinned food.

This year, we look forward to another selection of material delivered by experts in their field aimed at inspiring the academic curiosity of our students, staff, and members of the local community.

Whilst these lectures will be best suited to students in the Sixth Form, they are open to all students, parents, staff and members of the wider community who may be interested. The lectures will be held in the school theatre, starting at 5pm and are free to attend.

The programme is as follows, and we look forward to welcoming you all:

Please save the dates and watch this space for updates!
