final gambit of the year for interhouse chess!

Congratulations to Mersey on last night's Chess tournament win!

Our last Interhouse Chess tournament of the year took place last night, with everything to play for, but the spirit of friendly competition was as strong as ever!

Huge congratulations to MERSEY who were the overall winners!

And in an amazing achievement, there were two unbeaten players: Daniel 8U from Bradfield and Andy 8R from Mersey, who will be awarded bonus individual house points.

The final results were:

  1. Mersey
  2. Bradfield
  3. Orme
  4. Oak
  5. Park

Really well done all!

Chess Club leader Mrs Chadwick has been delighted with the enthusiasm demonstrated by our students over the course of this year, both for Interhouse chess tournaments, and for weekly Chess Club, and here she proudly shares all that has taken place and that has been achieved in Chess at UGS since September:

  • 4 interhouse chess competitions
  • Competed in the England U19 tournament
  • Competed in the Year 7 and Year 8 English Chess Foundation team challenge
  • Played in online matches in the autumn term in a competition organised by Eton College
  • Students have also been able to enjoy informal, friendly matches at our weekly lunchtime club

Mrs Chadwick is very much looking forward to more of the same next year, and we know that our students will be as keen as ever to take part!
