More insights into work experience week

More great examples and superb feedback about our Year 10 students in working action this week!

We were delighted to share news and photographs yesterday about all the fantastic organisations, sectors, and businesses that Year 10 have had the opportunity to work in and learn from this week, including: Engineering, Architecture, Childcare, Law, the Civil Service, Hospitality, and many, many more.

We have even more to share today, starting with Ben and Gui (lead picture and below) who have been learning all that there is to know about engineering and paper recycling at SAICA Paper:

They especially enjoyed a full day tour of the site and finding solutions to niche problems that they didn't think existed, including sorting a fuse box and helping to drill into metals and tapping.

Ben reports that it has been great to see Maths being applied in a scientific way as part of the engineering process, and Gui has really enjoyed the technicalities of helping the electricians with pressure units and circuitry, and the experience has developed his keen interest in a career in Engineering.

Jack (below) has spent the week with J Hopkins (Contractors) Limited:

He has enjoyed this fantastic opportunity to learn all about the field of Civil Engineering construction, and particularly liked being out in the depot and looking at how the sediment for roads is sorted.

Jack has also been examining videos and designs of roads, putting his own designs together, and going on site visits. He has found the placement to be both inspiring and rewarding, and it has strongly confirmed his interest in pursuing a career in Civil Engineering.

Emma and Matthew (below) have been working at the tech company Apadmi at Salford Quays. They have had an amazing experience working in all aspects of the business, including marketing, testing, and software engineering, and it has really made them think about their future options in this sector.

Thomas (below) has been at Cargill PLC. He has found the work experience really rewarding as it has fused his two core areas of interest in computing and engineering, and he has especially enjoyed working on the commission of a water tank system, and undertaking checks on its operation.

Thomas also enjoyed an insightful tour of the plant, and has worked with engineers in industrial production, smart manufacturing (automated and more digitalisation), manufacturing technology, and processing development (design and troubleshooting).

Lorenzo is at Chemlinks Specialities Ltd, enjoying learning a great deal about pharmaceuticals:

Archie has been spending time working at Davyhulme Golf Club, learning lots of new skills, including how to play golf, and a private lesson! And he has benefitted from lots of opportunities to develop his interpersonal skills by communicating with other employees and the public. He has also been asked to review the club newsletter, and to make suggestions for improvement.

Olutomi 10U has spent time with the Health service, based at Timperley Health Centre, and is seen here working in the surgery office:

Albert 10S (below) has been working with One Agency Media Ltd, learning skills in creative advertising, digital marketing, and branding. Albert is thoroughly enjoying the placement, and has especially enjoyed working with the events team in the warehouse, getting bikes painted for an advertising campaign for a client. He has learnt about the four different business areas: Media, Digital, Creative, and Events and Finance, and is getting experience within each area throughout the week.  Albert has found the placement really useful as he has a strong interest in Business and Economics.

We are delighted that there has been so much positive feedback from employers about our students, and they have been highly commended for their positive and proactive attitude towards learning in the workplace, their enthusiasm, punctuality, and for the contributions that they have made to their chosen working environments over the week.

A truly fantastic, inspiring, and insightful experience for all, that we know will contribute immensely to the professional progress of our students, and towards the fulfilment of their career aspirations.

With enormous thanks to all the organisations, businesses, and employers who have facilitated a fantastic week for our students, to our Careers department, and to all the staff who visited our students on placement.

If you are able to offer a placement next year and would like to be part of our programme, please contact: nkinder@urmstongrammar.org.uk
