sixth form taster day

Delighted today to welcome our prospective new cohort of Sixth Form students

It has been fantastic today to host so many students who would like to join our Sixth Form in September, and we were thrilled to welcome them for an opportunity to experience a sample of life as a UGS sixth former.

In our lead picture, some visiting students can be seen enjoying a taster of A Level German with Mr Cummins and Mrs Chadwick; and above in Maths with Miss Cookson and Mr Prastka, and below in Chemistry with Mr Parker.

CHEMISTRY

These taster lessons were just part of the programme for today, and offered the chance to experience UGS KS5 teaching and learning in a wide variety of subjects, as you will see from the range of photographs to follow.

BIOLOGY

But the day began with the first of many opportunities to meet our Leadership and Sixth Form team, and the students are pictured below beginning to arrive for a welcome presentation in our Theatre:

Head Mrs Wall, Head of 6th Form and Assistant Head Miss Lingwood, and Head of Years 12 and 13 respectively, Mr Neale and Mrs Mohamed (pictured below), shared with the students how delighted they were to meet them all for what promised to be a really positive experience that would contribute to their next important steps in learning and in life:

As Mrs Wall observed, our students are the future, and as a society and wider community, we rely on them all to lead the country, the world, and their own and future generations.

CHEMISTRY

As we have shared with all of our guests today, at UGS we take pride in shaping the academic pathways of our students.

BIOLOGY

But we take equal pride in also supporting, fostering and developing their professional and personal pathways.

PHYSICS

We aspire to achieve this through dedicated teaching and learning, and the provision of a rich variety of enrichment and extracurricular opportunities.

ECONOMICS

We also offer a dedicated personal mentoring programme, fantastic careers provision, and a whole host of work experience options and placements.

SOCIOLOGY

We offer a vibrant and supportive community with a full programme of enrichment, community, charity, and social events; and we know that this has been demonstrated to and felt by the students who have been able to spend time with us today.

GEOGRAPHY

In addition to experiencing the sample lessons pictured, our guests were also able to meet with each other, our current students, and our subject specialist staff and leadership team over break for informal refreshments, and again during a final meeting in our Theatre for a Q&A.

PSYCHOLOGY

We are delighted to have received so much positive feedback from the students about today's event, and to hear about how much they enjoyed the experience, and gained a valuable insight into all aspects of UGS Sixth Form life.

ENGLISH

With huge thanks to the fantastic students who visited today, it was amazing to meet you all, and we very much look forward to welcoming you in September.
