A premier league experience for our students!

A group of our very own Sports and Journalism stars hit the BBC studios!

Literally hot off the press: in a fantastic opportunity, a group of our students from years 8-10 attended a Sports Journalism event at the BBC studios at Media City UK, where they participated in workshops, met prominent figures from the world of sport and sports reporting, including presenter Shourjo Sarkar and pro football freestyler Steve Gray, toured the studios and Dock 10, and got to hear first hand from the production team about the making of Netflix's MCFC documentary `Together: Treble Winners`.

Our students can be seen in our lead picture proudly taking their place on the iconic red sofa, and excitedly arriving at Media City above.

Their participation in this opportunity was organised by Literacy coordinator Miss Hammond, who heads up our Perspectives magazine and editorial team, and Head of Girl's PE Mrs Evans, who were delighted to accompany the students on the day.

As you can see, they experienced use of all the key equipment that is core to broadcast journalism, both behind the scenes at the Match of the Day studios:

And in the central hot-seat:

Our students were really excited to get to meet and to engage in a Q&A with pro freestyle footballer Steve Gray, who is 3rd-placed in Europe, and who has, amongst many achievements, performed at the Champions League Final.

They also got to participate in a Sports Bulletin workshop with BBC presenter, reporter and presenter Shourjo Sarkar, an amazing opportunity to learn from such a renowned and experienced professional in the field.

The producers and creators of the celebrated Netflix documentary on Manchester City: `Together: Treble Winners`, also gave our students a unique insight into production and broadcasting, including how some footage for the documentary from MCFC's legendary season was captured on an iPhone camera.

On tour, our students got to visit the famous Dock 10 studios, so huge that 170 double-decker buses can fit in there; and it is where the ongoing Leader's debates are filmed, in addition to shows like Countdown and 8 out of 10 Cats.

Our group also visited the Blue Peter set; and they were in total awe on tour, as Richard Osman's House of Games was being filmed as they visited - all quiet on set!

All in all, a truly inspirational and insightful day of interactive learning that will enrich the sports and journalistic aspirations of our students, and a uniquely memorable and awe-inspiring experience for all at such an iconic location.

With huge thanks to our hosts at the BBC and Media City, and to Miss Hammond and Mrs Evans for facilitating this amazing opportunity for our students.
