crystallising learning in science club

Year 7 Science Club explores crystallisation in an interactive session!

Extracurricular Year 7 Science Club is held during lunchtime on Mondays, and is a core component of our enrichment provision at UGS.

Students are pictured above and below engaged in today's session, delivered by Mrs Walsh and Dr Bethell, where they enjoyed practical learning about chemical processes, specifically crystallisation.

In order to enrich their understanding, the students were tasked with making crystal wands, utilising a range of resources, and super-saturated sugar solution.

This hands-on and fun approach broadens our students' engagement with chemistry, and in this instance, with the different stages of chemical processes that constitute crystallisation, and the formation of atoms and molecules by means of nucleation, crystal growth, and precipitation.

And our Year 7 scientists cannot wait to see the end result of today's experimentation and investigation as their crystal wands take shape.

It's fantastic to see our students so enthused to develop and progress their learning outcomes by participating in UGS extracurricular opportunities and provision; with huge thanks to Mrs Walsh and Dr Bethell for delivering another fantastic lunchtime Science Club activity today!
