launch of model united nations club for ugs sixth form
Exciting new extracurricular lunchtime opportunity for our KS5 students!
Head of Year 13 Mrs Mohamed is delighted to share news of a brand new opportunity for our Sixth Form students to get involved in: Model United Nations (MUN) Club, that launched today and will take place every Tuesday lunchtime.
This is the very first time that UGS has offered an MUN club, and our students and Sixth Form team could not be more excited to get started, as you can see!
As detailed on the United Nations website, the premise of MUN is to enable and facilitate the engagement of students with the UN's goals and objectives, and participation in the simulations and debates supports a student's personal, academic, ethical and professional development, and is hugely positively impactful to the pathways that they aim to pursue:
Model UN simulations engage hundreds of thousands of students each year, helping them to learn more about the principles of the UN and how it functions. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including at the UN itself – participated in Model UN as students.
The United Nations supports Model UN simulations by building and maintaining strong links between the UN and Model UN participants. It does this by sharing first-hand knowledge about the work of the UN at Model UN conferences; providing guidance with organisers to create accurate and authentic simulations; and encouraging Model UN clubs to take concrete action to support UN values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At next week's UGS meeting, the countries and topics for debate will be issued to our Sixth Form students.
We can't wait to hear more and to follow the progress of this fantastic new club!
