year 12 achievement celebration
Year 12 end the term with a celebration of all their hard work
This morning, Head of Year 12 Mr Neale and Head of Sixth Form Miss Lingwood organised a special end-of-term Assembly for year 12 to recognise and to celebrate their hard work throughout this term, all their achievements, and their amazing start to life in UGS Sixth Form.
The assembly began with a festive show from some of the students, and a visit from the man in the red suit himself, distributing rewards to the Year 12 audience:
This was followed by a fun Kahoot quiz, testing Year 12's knowledge of the season, and how it is celebrated around the world; and this section ended with a timely reminder of the fact that now, and at any time of year, it is the thought behind the gift that truly counts, as Mr Neale observed: "The gift exists in the intention of the giver".
It was then time to celebrate all the ways in which Year 12 have made this such a great term: the many events and initiatives that they have not only been involved in, but have organised and driven, such as Food Fest and SOS Charity dodgeball; and all the great ways in which Year 12 have really got involved in UGS whole school and Sixth Form life, and in the many enrichment opportunities available to them, for example the Mock Trial event at Manchester Crown Court (see earlier reports for full details).
Mr Neale and Miss Lingwood also shared their pride in how the year group have really taken ownership of their studies, one example of which is their impressive use of the UpLearn platform.
Finally, Year 12 were commended for how they have impressed staff by upholding the UGS ethos of Pride, Participation and Empathy, and the celebration rounded off with awards for students who were nominated by their Form Tutors for having particularly demonstrated these core values.
Last but not least, there was recognition for those who have stood out on the Electives Enrichment programme, and for Year 12 Reading Buddies who work on literacy with younger students.
Really well done all, and we look forward to all that the New Year and New Term is scheduled to bring, not least the Sheffield University Visiting Day for the whole cohort, further super curricular lectures, and more enrichment opportunities like British Science Week and National Apprenticeship week.
With thanks to Mr Neale and Miss Lingwood for organising this great way to end the term for Year 12!
