inflating learning at science & art club
KS3 balloon-themed extracurricular activities on our Science & Art corridors today!
In this week's Year 7 Science Club, it was time to get down to some serious hands-on learning and take part in the great Yeast Balloon experiment, that explores the process of fermentation - yeast's ability to produce carbon dioxide gas.
Our students set up water in a tub, chose their own glass container, and added the yeast mixture, deciding how much sugar to add to the water. They quickly stretched their balloon over the top of the flask, before putting their glass container into the water bath. It was a fun challenge to see whose balloon inflated the most!
In making their own yeast-air balloons, our students gained a much better first-hand scientific understanding of what yeast can do, and the process of fermentation.
Another great week for Science Club, with huge thanks to session leaders Mr Murray, Dr Bethell, and Mrs Yarwood. Watch this space for next week's Science Club news!
KS3 Art Club
Meanwhile, during lunchtime on our Art corridor, students were busy flexing their creative skills while continuing with their fabulously designed hot air balloons, that we cannot wait to see displayed in all their glory around school! With huge thanks to Miss Bamford for leading this extracurricular club for our talented artists.
