new year for feminist society

An update on our fantastic Feminist Society!

Earlier today, we dropped in on Feminist Society, who, supported by Mrs Bourne, now meet every Thursday during the lunchbreak, and have been excited this term to welcome some brand new members from across the year groups, and to get to work on the many projects and fund-raising initiatives that they have planned for 2025.

Pictured above are Year 7s Zoe, Sienna, Jessica and Holly, who are formulating plans for a fund-raising celebration of International Women's Day in March, including bake sales and profiles of iconic women.

Year 8s Poppy and Izzy (below), along with Lyla, are continuing their work on a display board for our History corridor of infographics on key women in history, starting with Queen Victoria and Queen Mary.

Year 8s Grace (pictured below), Maryam and Annabel are working hard on promotional material for a forthcoming fund-raising design competition to chime with Valentine's Day.

Other students we spoke to today, including Year 10s Lucy and Annabel, are in the process of finalising arrangements for the forthcoming fund-raising film screening of the movie Clueless, which, as you may know, is a screen adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma.

All funds raised from ticket sales and refreshments will be donated to the charity Women for Women, and the first Feminist Society charity film night earlier this year was a huge success, and incredibly well-supported by our school community. We are sure that our students will be keen to get involved again and to show their support: please watch this space for further details about the screening on 14th February.

And tomorrow, Feminist Society and Year 10 will be delighted to welcome visiting speaker Annabel Mackie, Managing Director of Advertising and Social Media Influencer Agency Five by Five UK, who will present on her career and on the multi-faceted aspects of the profession.

Really well done all, and we look forward to providing updates on all that Feminist Society achieve, and on all the events that they have planned as the term progresses.
