crest science award presentations

Part one today with more to look forward to on Thursday!

Since the beginning of this academic year, a cohort of our year 8 and Year 9 scientists have been working hard towards the CREST award on a multitude of science projects, and today the first of them: Thomas, Jeremiah, Christy and Yasasvi (pictured above), got the opportunity to showcase their research and findings to a fantastic turn out of staff and students who were keen to learn more.

To earn the CREST award, students are required to work on scientific projects that demonstrate independence, proactivity, and enthusiasm, and to develop and flex their investigative, reflective, and evaluative skills.

Christy and Yasasvi 8S, in our main picture, researched and presented on treatments for dehydration.

Thomas 9M (below) discussed his research into sustainable packed lunches; and he was delighted to learn from Mr Kennedy-Fowler, who was in the audience, that the school will be introducing recycling bins for lunchtime packaging.

And Jeremiah 8T (below) presented on his project: How do rockets work, and the future of this feat of engineering:

The students fielded many questions from the audience with charm, intelligence and aplomb; and all expressed their gratitude towards the science staff, not least Mrs Walsh, who have supported their extracurricular work on the projects.

Really well done all, and we look forward to enjoying the remaining presentations on Thursday.
