year 13 social sciences trip
Our Sociology and Psychology students visit Shrewsbury Prison
Yesterday, our Year 13 Sociology and Psychology students visited Shrewsbury prison, where they were given a real insight into the realities of prison life, and learnt a great deal about the history of the prison.
Students had the opportunity to meet and learn from an ex-prison officer and police inspector, who shared their extensive experiences of dealing with prisoners, shedding light on the psychological impact of incarceration, and on aspects of rehabilitation.
Students also participated in an escape room experience, where they had to use their problem-solving and teamwork skills to try and get out of a cell.
It was a fantastic day and the tour guides commented that our students were the best visiting school groups that they had ever had: so engaged, and a real credit to the school!
With huge thanks to the department for arranging this wonderful opportunity for our Year 12 and 13 students, to all the staff who supported the trip, and to our hosts at Shrewsbury prison.
