feminist society
So proud of their hard work & productivity so far this term!
Today, we were delighted to drop in on Feminist Society's weekly lunchtime meeting and workshop, to hear more about all the projects that they are working on and about their future plans.
They are pictured above and below collaborating on research and content, and on finalising plans for their ongoing and forthcoming initiatives and events.
These include:
Fund-raising Film Night: following the huge success of a charity film night earlier this year, Feminist Society have arranged for another later this term, and all funds raised from the screening and from the sale of sweets and treats will be donated to the amazing work carried out by the charity Women for Women International.
Bake Sale: this will also fund-raise for the charity and will take place on 16th December, and we know that our students will do us proud in turning out to show their support for these events.
Assembly and visiting speaker: Feminist Society will deliver an assembly on Friday 6th December to students in years 7 and 8 on Feminism and how to get involved with the group, and in January they have arranged for a guest speaker to visit UGS, who will present on careers for women in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
Newsletter and Journalism: Feminist Society are working on a series of awareness-raising posters on inspirational and iconic women in culture, society, sport and music, and they now contribute newsletters and articles to our school magazine Perspectives.
Weekly Infographics: Feminist Society collate and publish impactful weekly infographics on their nominated `Woman of the Week`, and these are shared on our school Intranet page to raise awareness, and to stimulate discussion and debate. This week, they nominated activist political activist Gina Martin, and they could not have been more pleased to hear that this inspired 10R form tutor Mr Hains to research Gina's activism still further, and to share Gina’s TED talk on her hard-fought and successful campaign to change the law on upskirting with his form.
Mrs Bourne and all of us at UGS could not be more proud of the inspirational work being carried out by our Feminist Society, and we look forward to sharing updates on all that they achieve. Really well done all!
They currently meet during lunchtime on Fridays, but will be making the move to Thursdays in the New Year.
Watch this space!
