sociology competition winners

Huge congratulations to our aspiring Sociologists!

Pictured above this morning are some of the winners of the latest initiative from our Sociology department to encourage our KS3 and 4 students to think about and engage with the many different topics that make up this fascinating area of study that we are proud to offer at A level at UGS.

Sociology is a valuable subject to study if you are considering a career in Law or Journalism, and many of our alumni have gone on to study these disciplines at university and to pursue them professionally.

As Sociology teacher Miss Matthews explains, one of the topics studied in A level Sociology is the impact of media on our society, and the students were tasked with responding to a recent BBC News article on the beginning of the fight to pass a law on banning the use of mobile phones in schools, and to pitch and construct an argument that balanced both sides of the debate.

The Sociology department were delighted with the response from our students, and were truly impressed with the quality and considered depth of the submissions.

Really well done to the winners: Asfer 8R, Diane 10R, Kiana 7S (all pictured), Kanaan 10R and Dan 9U.

Watch this space for updates on the next challenge from our Sociology department!
