Oxbridge advice from Ugs alumnus chris

Dreaming of spires: Cambridge undergraduate & former student Chris visits to inspire our students

We have been delighted today to welcome back former UGS student Chris, who is currently in the final year of his French and German degree at Cambridge University, and visited school to deliver two informative lunchtime Q&A sessions on Oxbridge applications and the Oxbridge experience to a cohort of our students, firstly from Year 13, and secondly from Year 11 (who are pictured above).

Our students were eager to learn more about optimising their Oxbridge applications, about its entry requirements, and also about how studying for the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) can be of huge advantage to candidates. All students at UGS have the opportunity to pursue the EPQ in tandem with their A level courses, and it is fantastic to see how many of our 6th form students choose to undertake this.

Chris gave invaluable advice on course and college selection, and a constructive insight into the enriching learning experience afforded students at Oxbridge, including the outstanding level of teaching and personal contact with leading experts and academics in their field, and the many opportunities available to enrich undergraduate study while there.

It is fantastic that MFL alumnus Chris was able to visit this week as we celebrated European Day of Languages in school, and that he was able to inspire our students with an insight into the many professional opportunities available to Language students and graduates, and our students were keen to learn more about Chris's own aspirations post graduation.

With huge thanks to Chris for giving his time to visit today, and we wish him the very best for the future.
