delighted to welcome primary mathematicians & scientists

A day of Maths & Science learning at UGS for Year 5 students!

Our Maths and Science departments have today been delighted to welcome a cohort of Year 5 students and their teachers from both Urmston and Davyhulme Primary schools, to engage in a day of learning, curriculum enrichment, and a sample of life at UGS!

And they were ably and enthusiastically supported by a group of our current Year 7 students (pictured below), who were keen to act as ambassadors for both subjects areas:

The day began with a warm UGS welcome, followed by a carousel of Maths activities, led by Mr Prastka, Miss Murray, and Miss Devenney Lees, that were designed to enrich the study of Algebra and shape-solving, and allowed our visitors to explore the mathematical wonders of Tak-tiles.

A cohort of our year 12 students then took our guests on a tour of UGS, before it was time to enjoy some lunch, and prepare for an afternoon of scientific exploration led by Mr Leech and technicians Mrs Yarwood and Mr Sharp.

It began with an insightful but fun session on Mars landers, before progressing to the investigation of food testing in our labs.

With huge thanks to all of our Year 5 visitors and accompanying staff, it really has been fantastic to welcome you today.

With thanks also to our wonderful Team Maths and Science, and to our Year 7 and Year 12 students for lending their support so fantastically, and for being such great ambassadors for UGS.
