celebration of achievement evening

Mrs Wall leads the tributes to our students in a very special evening celebrating their very many achievements and accomplishments over the last year.

It was an evening to celebrate the attainments of our students from across the year groups: those who have excelled in our broad range of subject specialisms, and those who have been specially nominated by Heads of Year.

And we are also fortunate that the Celebration of Achievement was preceded by the opportunity to visit our special exhibition of the work of our talented GCSE and A Level Art, Design, Craft, Photography, and Design Technology students, with a great deal of praise and positive feedback shared on the standard and variety of work showcased.

We also celebrated the students who have been commended by our House Leaders, for, as Head of School Mr Roberts shares, "showing great resilience ... and for making contributions to the wider school community, through extracurricular or charitable endeavours".

The evening opened with a charming performance on piano from talented Year 8 student William, who also received an award from the Music department, before welcoming speeches from Mr Roberts and Mrs Wall,

They shared their pride in the broad spectrum of achievements of our students.

And the evening also showcased, recognised, and rewarded the core UGS ethos of challenging our students in all and every aspect of their education, in order to support, progress, and propel them towards fulfilling their rich potential, both inside and outside the classroom.

We were also treated to a stunning piano performance from Year 10 award winner Julie, and a speech from Mr Kennedy-Fowler,

Mr Kennedy-Fowler celebrated and provided a perspective not only on all the enrichment and extracurricular achievements of our students, including sport - both in national tournaments and championships, and in-house ...

But also in the performing arts, in debating, in public-speaking, in journalism and in creative writing, in MUN, and in charitable and community projects, to name just some.

Mr Kennedy Fowler also paid tribute to the wealth of extra-curricular opportunities available on and off site during school hours and beyond, all of which contribute to and enrich the character education of our students; not to mention the wealth of trips undertaken, regionally, nationally, and internationally, spanning Europe and beyond.

And, as Mr Kennedy-Fowler proudly observed, it is a testimony to our students that in the last year they have been awarded over 30,000 house-points for all that they have achieved, academically, in enrichment, and in community pursuits; and in contributing to whole school UGS life. And there are still 9 days left of term to go!

All in all, it has been a wonderful moment in the UGS calendar, and a fitting finale to a busy, fulfilling, and high-achieving year for our students and the UGS community.
