feminist society: fantastic first fund-raising event
So proud of our Feminist Society as they raise funds for Women's Aid with a Legally Blonde movie night!
UGS Feminist Society is going from strength to strength, and on Friday after school they organised their inaugural fund-raising event: a film night in our Theatre (some audience members are captured above), and a charity stall and raffle, pictured below, with all proceeds going to Women's Aid and their vital work.
We are delighted that so many in our UGS community - students and staff - got behind this great event, and turned out to show their support, buying tickets for the movie, and goods and raffle tickets from the stall ... and in many cases, both!
The film screening was a joyously engaged occasion, a real celebration of community and of women's empowerment, and the bursts of applause were great to hear.
We know that the raffle winners will enjoy their prizes and sporting their fabulous Women's Aid t-shirts, and the evening was a huge success for Feminist Society and the charity that they have worked hard to support, raising an amazing £230.
We cannot wait to share news and updates on all they organise and achieve moving forward, and they are looking forward to welcoming even more members to their weekly Friday meetings, with students from all year groups invited to come along .
Really well done all! With huge thanks to students Elah, Annabel, Nicole, Anna, Lucy, Nneka, Evie and Megan for all their efforts, and to Feminist Society staff lead Mrs Bourne.
