year 12 may's oxbright essay success

Delighted to share news about May's success in prestigious essay-writing competition

We are incredibly proud of Year 12 student May, who aims to study Dentistry once she has completed her A Level studies with us, and who recently submitted her essay: `Synergy of collaboration within Medicine: how helping each other encourages positive change` to the highly-regarded OxBright essay competition.

The OxBright programme and writing competition is aimed at outstanding KS4 and 5 students who aspire to apply for challenging and competitive courses of study at prestigious Universities, and who wish to develop their independent study skills in their chosen fields of study through academic research, analysis, and structured and referenced compositions, in order to demonstrate broad critical thinking and expository and evaluative writing skills, and to stand out amongst applicants.

May was inspired to submit her meticulously researched piece of work following a recommendation from Head of Year Mr Neale to engage in the OxBright programme, and whilst participating in their online tutorials, May was invited to make a submission to the competition.

Here May tells us more about her essay:

This year the question entrants were asked to consider for the OxBright competition was: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. How does collaboration in [your subject] support social impact and innovation? Discuss how working together is essential when addressing global challenges and creating meaningful change".

There were 15 subjects to choose from: Architecture, Biology, Business, Computer Science & Coding, Writing & Journalism, Economics, Engineering, Geography, History, Law, Mathematics, Medicine, Philosophy, Politics and Psychology.

I decided to write my essay on Medicine as I aspire to be a dentist, so I thought that the overlap in the topic and relevance of healthcare would be best.

We are thrilled that May's essay has been successfully shortlisted, with the judges commenting that they are extremely impressed with her submission; she will now be invited to attend the OxBright Conference, with the potential to be awarded one of the coveted prizes.

Incredibly well done May, best of luck in the final, and we cannot wait to share updates!
