Chess Club hosts a friendly tournament with Altrincham Boys Grammar
All eyes were on our Conference Room again after school yesterday as Chess Club and leader Mrs Chadwick hosted a friendly tournament against players from Altrincham Boys Grammar.
The objective was to give junior players from Years 7 and 8 some valuable experience on the board, which they clearly hugely enjoyed, and each school fielded 12 competitors.
While the level of play was high, and as serious and competitive as ever, the atmosphere was light, lovely and friendly, with lots of camaraderie, laughter and jokes; and it was a great opportunity not only to progress skills in the game, but to further develop relationships with players from other schools.
As Mrs Chadwick proudly reports:
Urmston won 4 and drew 2 of their 18 games, with some notable wins for Urmston team captain Daniel, as well as players Andy and Adam, who are all from Year 8.
It was great to see Dr Sully and the players from Alty Boys - this is proving to be an excellent chess friendship, and we look forward to more events next year!
With huge thanks to Altrincham Boys for joining us, to Mrs Chadwick for organising, and to our wonderful Chess players for their participation!
