Thank you for showing interest in our school and visiting our web site. It has been my good fortune to lead this school for eleven years now and without doubt, Urmston Grammar School is an exceptional school. In September 2004 we officially became a Science College, a centre of excellence for the teaching of Science. In addition Trafford LA regularly reach top position in both the GCSE and A'level league tables and as a school, we are one of the top ten providers of a' level Sciences nationally (4th for girls). We were also described as an "outstanding" school again by OfSTED in November 2008. We have been identified as one of the "High Performing Specialist Colleges", in the country and have been awarded Languages second specialism and are seeking Mathematics and Computing status too. We have a high profile nationally having presented our work in Science nationaly and I have the privilege of Chairing the National Science College Headteachers Steering Group as well as sitting as the "S" on the national STEM Headteachers group and a member of the National Headteachers Steering Group. Our profile is well known both nationally and interantionally as an outstanding school playing a full part in both setting the agenda and setting the standard. My teaching staff are experienced and immensely talented; always incredibly generous with their time and keen to extend the learning opportunities of our students beyond what one would normally expect from a school. They are without doubt a tremendous asset and resource. Our students are here to learn and they demonstrate this willingness in the classroom and beyond. Our motto, "manners makyth man" is our constant reminder that courtesy to one another, good humour and mutual respect are the foundations of our relationships with each other. We enjoy each others company; we celebrate each others successes; we build on each others strengths and we know each others weaknesses.Together we create that keen mind and healthy attitude that equips our students for their experience in University and their inevitable life beyond our school. We are both a community school and a family for life.
