SCIENCE FACULTY - Mrs R Wall, Mrs K E Cooper, Mr A Campbell, Dr O Richards, Mr J Dodd, Mr J Leech, Mrs R Day, Dr S Ahmed, Mrs D Hesford, Dr Stuckey, Mrs Rimmington, Dr J Howe, Mr J Patel. KEY STAGE 3 In Years 7 and 8 the course is composed of 16 units. At the end of each unit pupils are set a test which is closely linked to relevant National Attainment Targets. Units in Year 7 include Cells, Energy, Electricity and Acids and Alkalis. The CASE system is a system of teaching designed to promote higher levels of thinking and to raise their achievement in G.C.S.E. Units in Year 8 include Earth Science, Microbes and Disease, Atoms and Elements, and Sound and Light. Experimental work forms a large part of all units and occasionally part of homework, which is set twice a week in Years 7 and 8. In Year 9 a co-ordinated approach is adopted in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Towards the end of KS3, all pupils will take the National Curriculum attainment tests in Science. KEY STAGE 4: In Year 10 all pupils start KS4 of the National Curriculum in Science. Most pupils take Dual Award Co-ordinated Science and this will lead to 2 G.C.S.E. awards in Year 11. This course will provide a broad foundation for students who wish to continue their studies to ‘A' level. A number of students have taken advantage of the opportunity to take Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate sciences leading to 3 G.C.S.E. awards. SIXTH FORM: In the Sixth Form we offer Advanced Level and A/S courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Geology is available at A/S level. All these courses are modular. Day field trips and residential field studies are arranged by the faculty and all ‘A' level Biology students spend 3 days carrying our practical Ecological studies in Yorkshire . Year 9 students visit Ingleton to carry out studies on Earth Science.
